Top 5 Vegan Fast Food Eats in Montreal

Montreal is known as a hip place to live, with lots of great places to eat.  Almost everyone who lives here is a foodie to some extent or another.

If you think of "typical" Montreal food though, you're probably thinking of poutine (french fries loaded with cheese and gravy) or maybe smoked meat.  It's all really heavy, great comfort food.  But you also have a lot of places here to get food from all different kinds of ethnicities.

When I first turned Vegan, I knew I'd have no problem continuing to eat asian food.  Veggie Chow Mein?  No problem.  Stir fry?  Check.  Indian?  Land of the vegetarians.

My biggest loss, I thought, would be losing the fast food.  For someone trying to go more health-conscious, you might say "but that's a good thing!" but when the snow is persisting and you just want to snuggle up and eat something comforting, there's nothing quite like fast food.

So, if you're a vegan and you're in Montreal, here are my top favourite vegan fast food options.

Dirty Dogs - Hot Dog & Fries

The Memphis and Fries

The K-Pop

Dirty Dogs hands-down makes the best vegan hot dog in the city.  This is my #1 top pick when I want to be baaaad.  You can get this with a side of fries.  There are 3 options: the vegan BLT, the K-POP, and the Memphis.  I regularly get the K-POP and the Memphis, but haven't tried the vegan BLT dog yet because it just seems a bit dull in comparison.

Burger Royal - Vegan Burger and Onion Rings

Vegetarian Burger

If you're going to Burger Royal you can mix and match your own vegan burger.  Just get a vegetarian burger patty then you can put on it the fixings that you like.  Here you can see mine's heaped up to the max.  You can also get onion rings, fries, or sweet potato fries.  Take your pick!

Aux Vivres - Chili Fries

Chili Fries

Chili fries just bring me right back to my college days, when I'd go to the dining commons at midnight and load up on chili cheese fries.  At Aux Vivres, the Chili is quite good, and the fries are actually potato wedges.  The presentation isn't great - especially when you get it to go - but the taste is awesome.

Panthère Verte - Falafel

Falafel and Salad

I have a TOTAL addiction to Falafel thanks to the Green Panther.  I have tried falafel at other places, but I swear they do some kind of magic on the falafel at the Green Panther.  It's to DIE for.  I have to hold myself back from going there more than once a week.  I often just grab a traditional falafel when I'm on the go, but you can also get great salads and jars of pre-prepared meals when you're on the run.

Omnivoire - Kafta

So for those of you who don't know what a Kafta is, it's like a rolled sandwich.  Take some pita bread, put a veggie pâté skewer in there, then add some extra toppings and voilà!  At Omnivoire the vegetarian version is called the Khodra, and comes naturally with tofu, sun-dried tomato pesto, babaghanouj, and red cabbage.  However my favourite is to do the Inca with a Khodra skewer in it.  The Inca has guacamus, caramelized onions, and tahini cabbage.  I often grab a Kafta on my way back from the gym, sometimes also with some salads on the side if I'm super hungry.

So there you have it!  My Top 5 fast food recommendations for vegan food on the go.  Just because you're vegan doesn't mean you can't stuff your face.

I am a vegan, a kickboxer, and a writer.
