2015 was a momentous year for Myanmar/Burma, with the landslide victory in the general elections in November of the National League for Democracy, led by Aung San Suu Kyi.  The opportunity for this beautiful and troubled country to break from its self-destructive past is clear to all. I wanted to know more about the history, and thus the true nature of the challenge, so as to judge how Burmese leaders are handling the crucial next steps. I found it in Richard Cockett's admirable book just published: Blood, Dreams and Gold: The Changing Face of Burma.
