Hay Festival Peru 2016
8-11 December, 2016
The Hay Festival, founded by Peter Florence and his father Norman, allegedly with their winnings from a poker game, began in Hay-on-Wye in Wales. It has has developed into a sprawling network of world events, the next one taking place in Arequipa, Peru, from December 8-11. Over 100 authors, journalists, artists and musicians from 15 countries will converge on the city, including Nobel Peace Prize laureates Jody Williams and Ahmed Galai. Authors will include Alessandro Baricco, Nell Leyshon, Ben Okri, and Francisco Goldman, as well as journalist and graphic novel star Joe Sacco. As Peter Florence once said, “Literature is the most dissenting and un-clubbable art form. Writers aren’t ever luxury entertainment like classical music or art. They pose questions, they destabilize, they’re provocative.”
In 2017 the Hay Festival will move on to Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from January 26-29 and to Kells, Ireland, from June 22-25.
