10 World Teachers’ Day Events Around the World

World Teachers’ Day celebrates teachers and is an occasion to hold international conferences on the subject of teaching. Since the original meeting in Paris in 1966, which inspired this international day, events have been held in hundreds of places internationally. This year, there is an annual conference in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, as well was many other events dispersed throughout the world. Here are some of UNESCO’s recommended events. You can also check back here for updates on different events scheduled for October 5th.
1. Conference at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France
UNESCO holds an annual conference on October 5th that is open to the public. It will also include a ceremony of the Hamdan Prize awards and a seminar with the Joint ILO/UNESCO Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendations concerning Teaching Personnel (CEART) experts. 2. Global Teacher's Conference and Award Ceremony 2016, Mumbai-Hyderabad-New Delhi, India
The MVLA Trust Organization will host a global teachers convention and award ceremony as a celebration of WTD in Mumbai on October 5th. This is part of a three-part conference which will take place from October to December in Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi. You can find more information on their website.
3. EPALE World Teachers’ Day, Brussels, Belgium
The EPALE (Electronic Platform for Adult Learning) invites teachers, trainers and coaches for a day of vocational training centered around providing teaching for the 21st century. The day-long conference will be held in the Atomium from 10:30 - 15:45. More information is available here.
4. World Teachers’ Day: “Valuing Teachers, Improving the Status”, Bilbao, Spain
The AIFE Association will host a round table discussion about valuing and appreciating teachers, with special representatives in different educational fields. The event will be held in the Facultad de Economía y Empresa-Elcano in Bilbao. More information is available here.
5. International Teachers’ Meeting, Virrat, Finland
Teachers of multiple languages, Finnish, Turkish, Croatian , Spanish and Italian will gather for a teachers’ meeting at the Helvetinjärvi National Park. More information available here.
6. Saved By The Bell, throughout Belgium and around the world
This initiative, put on by NGOs VIA Don Busco and Studio Globo, organizes a collective ringing of the school bell as a way to acknowledge the hard work of teachers, and every child’s right to a good education. What began in Belgium is now a global initiative, and last year around 140,000 teachers and students in Belgium participated along with schools in other countries like Congo, India, Nepal and Pakistan. 7. Teacher Exhibition in Rome, Italy
This exhibition commemorates the book “Heart” which was written by Edmondo de Amicis and tells the fictional story of a boy’s third year in school. The book became a film called “Diary of a Teacher“ and is included in UNESCO’s Collection of Representative Works. The exhibition will be held in the Biblioteca di Scienza della formazione Università Roma Tre. More information here.
8. Merci Mon Enseignant, Bizerte, Tunisia

9. Teachers Matter, Cabar, Croatia
At the primary school Peter Zrinski Cabar, students of English language will celebrate WTD through various classroom activities. They’ll be uploading their work online here and you can find more information here.
10. Teacher Tool Kit, Virtual
Teacher Took Kit is a popular UK education blog created by Ross Morrison McGill dedicated to providing information about teachers and education. They’ll be tweeting about WTD on October 5th, and writing about the event on their blog. (@teachertoolkit)
