An Anthology of Fables by N. J. P. Wegner

An Anthology of Fables

By N. J. P. Wegner

A facsimile edition of an illustrated booklet created by N.J.P.Wegner 1961, contains fables by Aesop and other classical authors. 'As a child he would sometimes go upstairs to the studio where his father, a renowned children's book illustrator, worked. He would stand beside him watching pencil roughs evolve into finished studies of intimate detail; the little figures and settings hatched with a scratching dip pen. some tinted with colour washes. He was occasionally used as a model for reference of children, drawn or painted in outfits, once posed as a young shepherd in a red cloak with a staff. From seven years old he would bring his own drawings and watercolours for inspection; then at twelve years he made his first book, an anthology of fables and poetry copied from shelves of literature, embellished with pen drawings. Saved by his sister over the years this resurfaced. To mark his father's 89th birthday a facsimile is published, in fond tribute and gratitude for those special beginnings.' NPJ September 2013
