Elena Chizhova is a Russian novelist, essayist, and head of the PEN branch in Saint Petersburg. A former teacher and businesswoman who turned later to writing, her work touches on Soviet and post-Soviet social realities. She was awarded the 2009 Russian Booker Prize for her novel The Time of Women, which traces the lives of several generations of women in a communal apartment in post-war Leningrad. The Time of Woman has been translated into English and multiple other languages and adapted for stage.
